The PSS 02-512-712 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide reliable sealing for marine applications. This advanced mechanical face seal utilizes a robust system to ensure optimal performance in challenging environments.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal features a unique design where the sealing surface is formed between the smooth, flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of a flexible bellows using hose clamps, while the rear of the bellows is fitted over the stern tube and also secured with clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being fixed to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load maintains a constant contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the seal to adjust to any fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, accommodating most alignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings, which rotate with the assembly and are protected from wear during operation.
