Product Overview

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal, utilizing the interaction between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange to create a secure sealing surface. The carbon flange is mounted to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, while the rear end fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being attached to the shaft using set screws.

This pre-compression maintains constant contact between the flat surfaces of the rotor and flange, accommodating any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, effectively addressing misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two recessed O-rings that rotate in sync with the shaft, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
