The PSS 02-500-712 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to ensure reliable sealing in marine applications. This innovative product features a mechanical face seal that effectively manages the challenges of water ingress while accommodating the dynamic movements of the shaft.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal, where the sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange, which is securely attached to the bellows via hose clamps, fits over the stern tube and is also fastened with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted onto the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being secured with set screws. This compression maintains continuous contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the seal to accommodate the variable fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.

Moreover, the carbon flange is designed to be over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" around the shaft and effectively compensate for misalignment and vibration. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
