The PSS 02-500-612 is a state-of-the-art dripless shaft seal designed for marine applications. Its innovative design ensures reliability and performance, making it an essential component for any stern tube system.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal employs a mechanical face seal mechanism. The sealing surface is formed between the smooth flat surfaces of the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows' front side using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, where it compresses the bellows before being secured to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load ensures constant contact between the rotor and flange, enabling the PSS to adapt to varying fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange features an over-bored design that allows it to "float" around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor's seal to the shaft is maintained by two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
