The PSS 02-45M-334 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for optimal performance in stern tube applications. This advanced mechanical face seal utilizes a unique design that ensures a secure and leak-free operation under various conditions.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal with a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows via hose clamps, while the back of the bellows is fitted over the stern tube and also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, where it compresses the bellows before being fixed to the shaft with set screws. This compression creates a pre-load that maintains constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, allowing the seal to adapt to the variable movement caused by propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and accommodate misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore, allowing them to rotate with the shaft without wear during operation.
