The PSS 02-45M-312 is a high-performance dripless shaft seal designed for marine applications. This mechanical face seal provides exceptional reliability and efficiency, ensuring a watertight seal even under challenging conditions.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal mechanism, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the rear of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange. It compresses the bellows before being fastened to the shaft with set screws. This pre-compression maintains constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, allowing the seal to adapt to the natural fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. In addition, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, accommodating most misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings recessed in the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and do not suffer wear during operation.
