The PSS 02-45M-214 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered to provide a reliable and efficient sealing solution for stern tube applications. This advanced mechanical face seal design ensures optimal performance and longevity.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates with a mechanical face seal, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, applying compression to the bellows before being fixed to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load keeps the rotor and flange in constant contact, enabling the PSS to adjust for any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and effectively compensate for misalignment and vibration issues. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore, rotating with the shaft and rotor without experiencing wear.
