PSS 02-434-634 - Dripless Shaft Seal 4 3/4", 6 3/4" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-434-634 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliability and efficiency in marine applications. Its innovative design effectively handles thrust and vibration, making it an essential component for performance-driven vessels.
The Type B PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal comprised of a stainless-steel rotor and a carbon flange. The sealing mechanism is established between these two flat surfaces. The carbon flange, which is attached to the bellows with hose clamps, ensures firm placement. A secure fit is achieved as the back end of the bellows wraps around the stern tube, and hose clamps are used for added security. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft, positioned in front of the carbon flange. Upon securing the rotor to the shaft with set screws, it compresses the bellows, creating a pre-load that ensures constant contact between the rotor and flange. This design allows for compensation of any variations in movement due to propeller thrust. Furthermore, the carbon flange is designed to be over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to float around the shaft and effectively handle misalignments and vibrations. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings expertly recessed into the collar's bore, designed to rotate seamlessly with the shaft and rotor without sustaining wear during operation.
