The PSS 02-414-614 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide reliable sealing for stern tubes while minimizing maintenance. This innovative mechanical face seal features a unique design that effectively accommodates the movement of the shaft, ensuring a consistent and leak-free operation.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal, where the sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows to maintain constant contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-load ensures that the seal can adapt to any fore-and-aft movement caused by propeller thrust.

Moreover, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, compensating for misalignment and vibration issues. Sealing is achieved through two O-rings recessed in the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
