The PSS 02-412-512 Dripless Shaft Seal is an exceptional mechanical face seal designed to ensure optimal performance within stern tube applications. This innovative product utilizes a unique sealing mechanism formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange, providing a reliable barrier that prevents leaks.

The stationary carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows at the front with hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured in place with clamps. The stainless-steel rotor, which is mounted on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange, exerts pressure on the bellows when attached to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load maintains consistent contact between the rotor and flange, accommodating any forward or backward movement caused by propeller thrust.

Engineered with precision, the carbon flange features an over-bored design to match the shaft diameter, allowing it to “float” and effectively address various alignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings set within the collar's bore, which rotate seamlessly with the shaft and rotor without experiencing wear.
