The PSS 02-40M-400 is a state-of-the-art dripless shaft seal designed to ensure reliable performance in marine applications. With its advanced mechanical face seal technology, this product offers exceptional durability and efficiency.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal that operates between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being locked into place with set screws. This pre-load creates a consistent contact between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange, enabling the seal to adapt to the variable movements caused by propeller thrust.

The carbon flange is designed to “float” around the shaft due to its over-bored configuration, effectively accommodating misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
