The PSS 02-40M-334 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliability and performance in marine applications. This mechanical face seal utilizes a unique design to ensure a watertight fit, adapting seamlessly to the dynamics of propeller thrust.

At the core of the PSS Shaft Seal's functionality is the interaction between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows, which fits over the stern tube. The rotor, mounted on the shaft, compresses the bellows, ensuring constant contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-load mechanism allows the seal to accommodate variations in shaft movement, effectively managing fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.

The carbon flange's over-bored design enables it to float around the shaft, mitigating misalignment and vibration issues. Two O-rings, recessed within the rotor collar, provide an additional seal, rotating with the shaft and ensuring minimal wear during operation.
