The PSS 02-40M-314 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliable performance in marine applications. This advanced sealing solution ensures optimal operation under varying conditions, providing a durable barrier against water ingress.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal, with the sealing action occurring between the smooth surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is mounted on the front of the bellows, secured by hose clamps, while the back of the bellows encases the stern tube, also fastened with hose clamps. The rotor is connected to the shaft and exerts compression on the bellows, which stabilizes contact between the rotor and carbon flange. This pre-loading feature allows the PSS Shaft Seal to adapt to the shaft's forward and backward movements, a common occurrence due to propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is designed with an oversized opening that allows it to float around the shaft, effectively addressing most alignment discrepancies and vibration issues. Sealing is enhanced by two O-rings that fit snugly within the rotor's collar, rotating alongside the shaft and rotor without significant wear throughout their lifespan.
