The PSS 02-40M-312 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for optimal performance and reliability in marine applications. This innovative seal features a mechanical face design that ensures a secure and efficient sealing surface between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is mounted to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows is fitted over the stern tube and also secured with hose clamps.

The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange, applying compression to the bellows before being fastened with set screws. This pre-load feature maintains continuous contact between the rotor and the flange, effectively compensating for any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is designed with an over-bore to the shaft diameter, allowing it to float freely, thereby addressing misalignment and vibration issues.

Sealing is enhanced by two O-rings, which are recessed in the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear and extending the seal's lifespan.
