The PSS 02-40M-234 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliable performance in marine applications. This mechanical face seal maintains effective sealing in demanding conditions, ensuring optimal operation of the stern tube.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates on a precision mechanical face sealing principle. It features a mating surface formed between the flat rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely mounted on the bellows front with hose clamps, while the back end is fitted over the stern tube, also using hose clamps for stability. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange and exerts compression on the bellows before being locked in place by set screws. This pre-load is crucial for maintaining constant contact between the rotor and the flange, effectively adapting to any extension and retraction caused by propeller thrust. Moreover, the carbon flange is designed to be over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and absorb misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that are recessed within the collar's bore. Operating in tandem with the rotor, these O-rings rotate without undergoing wear, enhancing longevity.
