The PSS 02-40M-212 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable and efficient sealing in marine applications. This mechanical face seal utilizes a unique design to ensure optimal performance and durability.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being secured with set screws. This pre-load keeps the rotor and flange in constant contact, effectively compensating for any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, allowing it to float and accommodate misalignment and vibration. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
