The PSS 02-400-700 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliable performance in marine applications. This innovative seal utilizes a mechanical face design that ensures optimal sealing and longevity.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, while the back of the bellows is fitted over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft, in front of the carbon flange, and compresses the bellows before being fastened to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load maintains consistent contact between the rotor and carbon flange, accommodating any fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the over-bored carbon flange allows it to "float" around the shaft, effectively addressing most misalignment and vibration issues. Sealing to the shaft is achieved with two O-rings recessed within the collar's bore, which rotate alongside the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
