PSS 02-400-614 - Dripless Shaft Seal 4", 6 1/4" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-400-614 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable seal for marine applications, ensuring a watertight barrier between the stern tube and shaft. This mechanical face seal is crafted to handle high pressures and temperatures, making it ideal for demanding environments.
Type B PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal with the sealing surface created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is attached to the front side of the bellows with hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is fitted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and compresses the bellows before being secured to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load maintains constant contact between the two flat faces of the stainless-steel rotor and carbon flange, compensating for variable fore and aft movement due to propeller thrust. The carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to “float” around the shaft and address most misalignment and vibration issues. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor and do not experience wear during operation.
