PSS 02-400-612 - Dripless Shaft Seal 4", 6 1/2" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-400-612 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable sealing performance in marine applications. This innovative product features a mechanical face seal that ensures a leak-free connection between the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange.
The sealing mechanism is formed between the flat surfaces of the rotor and flange. The stationary carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows with hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being fixed in place with set screws. This compression maintains constant contact between the rotor and the flange, allowing the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.
Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignment and vibration. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings recessed in the collar, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
