The PSS 02-38M-400 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliability in marine applications. This advanced mechanical face seal utilizes a unique design that ensures a leak-free performance while compensating for movement and misalignment.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The rotor, mounted on the shaft before the carbon flange, compresses the bellows to maintain constant contact between the rotor and flange surfaces. This pre-load allows the seal to adapt to fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is designed with an over-bore to the shaft diameter, enabling it to “float” and effectively address misalignment and vibration issues. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings that rotate with the shaft, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
