The PSS 02-38M-314 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable performance in marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal features a robust construction that ensures a watertight seal and minimizes maintenance needs.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal employs a mechanical face seal mechanism, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange, mounted on the front side of the bellows with hose clamps, accommodates the stern tube while ensuring a secure fit. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, squeezing the bellows before being affixed to the shaft with set screws. This pre-compression maintains constant contact between the rotor and flange surfaces, compensating for any forward and backward movement caused by propeller thrust.

The carbon flange is designed to be slightly oversized relative to the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and effectively address misalignment and vibration issues. Additionally, the rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings, which are recessed in the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate alongside the shaft and rotor, ensuring they remain free from wear during operation.
