The PSS 02-38M-200 Dripless Shaft Seal is an advanced mechanical face seal designed for marine applications. Its innovative design ensures a reliable seal, preventing water ingress while allowing for the necessary movement of the propeller shaft.

This shaft seal features a unique sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, while the back of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured by hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, and it compresses the bellows prior to being secured with set screws. This pre-load maintains constant contact between the rotor and flange, accommodating any fore-and-aft movement due to propeller thrust.

The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignment and vibration issues. Sealing is further enhanced by two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring they remain unaffected by wear during operation.
