The PSS 02-35M-314 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliability and efficiency in marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal utilizes a unique design to ensure optimal performance, reducing the risk of leaks and enhancing durability.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface forms between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows with hose clamps, while the rear end of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and is designed to compress the bellows before being secured to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load creates a constant contact between the rotor and the flange, effectively compensating for any fore and aft movement due to propeller thrust. Moreover, the carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to “float” and effectively address misalignment and vibration issues. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and do not suffer wear during operation.
