The PSS 02-358-514 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for optimal performance in marine environments, ensuring a reliable seal between the shaft and stern tube. Its innovative design eliminates the risk of leaks, making it an essential component for any vessel.
The Type A PSS Shaft Seal functions as a mechanical face seal. It achieves sealing through the interaction of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange, creating a tight seal between their flat surfaces. The carbon flange, secured to the bellows with hose clamps, fits over the stern tube, ensuring a robust connection. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft, and once secured, it compresses the bellows, maintaining constant contact between the rotor and flange. This compression allows the seal to accommodate any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.
Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, compensating for misalignment and vibration. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings, which rotate with the assembly, preventing wear during operation.
