The PSS 02-358-434 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for optimal performance in marine applications, ensuring a reliable seal between the shaft and the stern tube. It features a mechanical face seal design that utilizes the interaction between a stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange to maintain a leak-free environment.

In this system, the stationary carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, while the rear end of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured. The stainless-steel rotor is installed on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows to create a pre-load that ensures constant contact between the rotor and flange. This design allows for compensation of fore and aft movements due to propeller thrust.

The carbon flange is uniquely over-bored to match the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and effectively manage misalignment and vibration. Additionally, the rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that rotate with the system, preventing wear during operation.
