The PSS 02-334-514 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable sealing solution for stern tubes. This mechanical face seal employs a unique design that ensures optimal performance under various marine conditions.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured with clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and is compressed against the bellows before it is fixed to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load maintains constant contact between the rotor and the flange, allowing the PSS Seal to adapt to movements caused by propeller thrust.

The carbon flange is designed to be over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" around the shaft. This feature compensates for misalignment and vibration, enhancing the overall performance of the seal. Additionally, the rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that are recessed within the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring they do not wear out during operation.
