The PSS 02-334-512 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable performance in marine applications. Its robust construction ensures a secure seal while accommodating the dynamic movements of a vessel.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal. It features a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being fastened to the shaft using set screws. This pre-load ensures constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, allowing the seal to adjust for the variable movements caused by propeller thrust. Moreover, the carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to “float” and effectively manage misalignment and vibration issues. Sealing is enhanced with two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
