PSS 02-334-434 - Dripless Shaft Seal 3 3/4", 4 3/4" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-334-434 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable sealing solution for stern tubes. Utilizing a mechanical face seal, it ensures effective operation even under varying conditions.
The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a sealing interface formed by the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is secured to the front of a flexible bellows with hose clamps, while the rear of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also fastened with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is attached to the shaft, compressing the bellows to maintain constant contact with the carbon flange. This pre-load compensates for any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust, ensuring optimal performance.
Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, accommodating misalignment and vibration. The connection between the rotor and shaft is sealed with two O-rings, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
