PSS 02-312-700 - Dripless Shaft Seal 3 1/2" 7 Stern Tube
The PSS 02-312-700 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable performance in marine applications. Utilizing a mechanical face seal, it ensures a robust sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. This innovative design allows for effective compensation of fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.
The stationary carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows with hose clamps, while the rear of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows to maintain constant contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-loading is crucial for accommodating any movement and misalignment that may occur during operation.
Notably, the carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to float and adjust to variances in alignment and vibration. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings recessed in the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and ensure minimal wear during use.
