The PSS 02-312-534 Dripless Shaft Seal is a high-performance mechanical face seal designed to provide a reliable barrier for marine applications. Engineered for durability, this seal features a unique design that allows for effective compensation of misalignment and vibration, ensuring superior functionality over time.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal mechanism, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows via hose clamps, while the bellows itself is fitted over the stern tube and also secured with clamps. The rotor compresses the bellows and is then fixed to the shaft with set screws, establishing a pre-load that maintains consistent contact between the rotor and flange. This design allows the PSS seal to adapt to the varying fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to be slightly larger than the shaft, enabling it to float and accommodate most alignment and vibration challenges. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft through two O-rings located within the collar’s bore, ensuring that these O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
