The PSS 02-312-514 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for optimum sealing performance in marine applications. Its Type A design features a mechanical face seal that effectively prevents leakage, ensuring a reliable and efficient operation.

The sealing interface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely mounted to the bellows using hose clamps, while the bellows is fitted over the Stern tube and also secured in place. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange. Once installed, the rotor compresses the bellows before being secured to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load maintains a constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, allowing for compensation of any forward and backward movement caused by the propeller's thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to be over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to “float” for compensating misalignments and vibrations. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings that rotate alongside the shaft and rotor, ensuring longevity without wear during use.
