The PSS 02-312-500 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to deliver superior performance and reliability for marine applications. This innovative product ensures a watertight seal around the shaft while allowing for essential movement and alignment adjustments.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal functions as a mechanical face seal, where the sealing occurs between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits snugly over the Stern tube, also secured by hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange, and it compresses the bellows before being firmly attached to the shaft with set screws. This compression creates a pre-load that maintains constant contact between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange, allowing the seal to adapt to the variable movements from propeller thrust.

Moreover, the carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" around the shaft. This design feature compensates for most misalignments and vibrations that could occur during operation. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings that are recessed within the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate in tandem with the shaft and rotor, significantly reducing wear over time.
