PSS 02-30M-200 - Dripless Shaft Seal 30 mm, 2" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-30M-200 is designed to provide reliable and effective sealing for marine applications. Built with precision engineering, this shaft seal ensures optimal performance in various conditions.
The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal, effectively creating a sealing surface between the smooth flat areas of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange, which is anchored to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, is engineered to fit over the stern tube and is similarly secured. Positioned in front of the carbon flange, the stainless-steel rotor is attached to the shaft. In a critical step, this rotor compresses the bellows before being firmly secured with set screws, establishing a pre-load that guarantees continuous contact between the rotor and carbon flange. This design allows the seal to accommodate any fore and aft movement resulting from propeller thrust. The carbon flange is uniquely over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and absorb misalignments and vibrations effectively. Additionally, the stainless-steel rotor is secured to the shaft by two O-rings, which are recessed within the collar's bore. These O-rings are designed to rotate in tandem with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear over time.
Specifications include temperature limits of 5°F to 225°F (-15°C to 107°C), pressure limits of 15 PSI (1 BAR), and a maximum shaft RPM of 10,000 RPM. The carbon graphite sealing surface is finely lapped to a tolerance of 0.000044", while the 316 stainless steel/Nitronic 50 is faced to a standard of 9-12 Ra. The bellows material is molded nitrile and PVC, offering durability and flexibility.
