The PSS Type A Shaft Seal is a highly reliable mechanical face seal designed to prevent water ingress in stern tubes. Its innovative design ensures constant contact between the sealing surfaces, compensating for shaft misalignment and vibration while maintaining a long-lasting, dripless seal.
- The sealing surface is formed between the stainless-steel rotor and carbon flange.
- Compression of the bellows maintains contact between the rotor and flange to manage fore and aft shaft movement caused by propeller thrust.
- The carbon flange is over-bored to allow it to float around the shaft, reducing misalignment issues.
- Stainless-steel rotor is secured to the shaft with set screws and sealed with O-rings, which rotate with the shaft without wear.
