PSS 02-22M-214 - Dripless Shaft Seal 22 mm, 2" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-22M-214 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for optimal performance in marine applications, providing a reliable solution for sealing the stern tube. Its innovative design features a mechanical face seal that ensures a secure barrier against water ingress.
The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a stainless-steel rotor that rotates in contact with a stationary carbon flange. This setup is crucial for creating an effective sealing surface. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows via hose clamps, while the bellows itself fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The rotor compresses the bellows, maintaining constant contact with the carbon flange and accommodating any fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust. This design also allows the carbon flange to "float," compensating for misalignment and vibration. The rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings, which rotate with the shaft, preventing wear during operation.
