The PSS 02-214-500 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for optimal performance in marine environments. This advanced sealing solution ensures reliable operation under varying conditions, making it an essential component for any boating enthusiast.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal, where the sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured with clamps. In front of the carbon flange, the stainless-steel rotor is fitted onto the shaft, compressing the bellows before being firmly attached using set screws. This pre-load ensures constant contact between the flat faces of the rotor and flange, allowing the PSS to adjust for any fore and aft movements due to propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is intentionally over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to “float” and accommodate misalignment and vibration issues effectively. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that are recessed into the collar’s bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
