The PSS 02-214-412 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable sealing solution for marine applications. This mechanical face seal utilizes a unique design to ensure optimal performance and durability.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft, just in front of the carbon flange, and is designed to compress the bellows before being secured to the shaft with set screws. This compression maintains a constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, effectively compensating for any movement caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to float around the shaft and address misalignment and vibration issues. Sealing to the shaft is achieved through two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring they do not wear during operation.
