PSS 02-214-300 - Dripless Shaft Seal 2 1/4", 3" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-214-300 Dripless Shaft Seal is an advanced mechanical sealing solution designed for marine applications. It ensures a reliable and leak-free operation, enhancing the performance and longevity of your vessel's stern tube.
The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal, formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely mounted to the bellows with hose clamps, while the rear of the bellows fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is installed on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange and compresses the bellows to establish a constant connection between the rotor and flange. This pre-load maintains essential contact between the two surfaces, allowing the PSS seal to accommodate the variable movements caused by propeller thrust.
Furthermore, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignment and vibrations. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings, which are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
