The PSS 02-212-434 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable and efficient sealing solution for marine applications. Its innovative construction ensures minimal maintenance while effectively compensating for shaft movement.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal, utilizing a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows, which is clamped at both ends: one end over the stern tube and the other to the carbon flange. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange. This rotor compresses the bellows before being secured with set screws, maintaining a constant contact between the rotor and flange. This design allows the seal to adapt to variations in shaft movement caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to “float” and effectively address misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings that rotate with the assembly, ensuring longevity and minimal wear during operation.
