The PSS 02-212-400 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for superior performance in marine applications, ensuring reliable sealing and minimal maintenance.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal, where the sealing surface forms between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows' front side using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured by hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft just in front of the carbon flange and compresses the bellows before being fixed to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load ensures constant contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movements resulting from propeller thrust. Moreover, the carbon flange is designed to be over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and effectively manage misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
