The PSS 02-150M-800 Dripless Shaft Seal is a high-performance mechanical face seal designed for marine applications. This robust seal ensures a reliable barrier against water ingress while accommodating the dynamic movement of the stern tube.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal features a unique mechanical design where the sealing surface is formed between the smooth, flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of a flexible bellows, which fits snugly over the stern tube and is held in place with hose clamps. A key component, the stainless-steel rotor, is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, providing effective compression to the bellows. This pre-load maintains a constant contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.

To further enhance performance, the carbon flange is designed to “float” around the shaft, compensating for misalignment and vibration. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings, which are recessed in the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and do not wear out during operation, ensuring long-lasting reliability.
