The PSS 02-140M-734 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for durability and reliability in marine applications. This mechanical face seal is designed to effectively prevent leakage between the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange, ensuring optimal performance even under challenging conditions.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal operates through a unique design that incorporates a flat sealing surface between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows with hose clamps, while the back of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with clamps. The rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, where it compresses the bellows before being fastened with set screws. This pre-load maintains consistent contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the system to adapt to variations in propeller thrust and movement.

Additionally, the over-bored carbon flange enables it to float around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignment and vibration issues. The stainless-steel rotor is secured to the shaft using two O-rings that rotate with the shaft, preventing wear during operation.
