The PSS 02-140M-714 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliability and performance in marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal features a unique design that ensures a tight and secure fit, preventing leaks and enhancing durability.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal system where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is affixed to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows securely fits over the stern tube, also held in place with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being secured with set screws. This pre-compression maintains constant contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the PSS to accommodate any forward or backward movement caused by propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to be over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to “float” around the shaft to counteract misalignment and vibration issues. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor without experiencing wear during operation.
