The PSS 02-140M-700 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for optimal performance in marine environments. This advanced sealing solution utilizes a mechanical face seal design for reliable operation and longevity.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal features a unique sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits snugly over the stern tube and is also secured with clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, providing a robust connection.

As the rotor is tightened onto the shaft with set screws, it compresses the bellows, which maintains constant contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-load feature allows the PSS seal to adapt to the dynamic movements caused by propeller thrust, ensuring effective sealing even under varying conditions. The carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and compensate for misalignments and vibrations, enhancing durability and performance.

The rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings embedded in the collar, which rotate with the shaft and do not wear down during operation, further contributing to the seal's longevity.
