The PSS 02-140M-612 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliable performance in marine applications. This mechanical face seal ensures a leak-free operation, utilizing a sophisticated design that accommodates the dynamic conditions of a vessel's movement.

Type B PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange, secured to the bellows with hose clamps, fits over the stern tube, providing a robust connection. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, where it compresses the bellows to maintain constant contact between the sealing surfaces. This pre-load allows the seal to adjust for any forward or backward movement caused by propeller thrust.

The design includes an over-bored carbon flange that enables it to “float” around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignment and vibration. Additionally, the rotor is secured to the shaft with set screws, while two O-rings recessed in the collar's bore create a reliable seal that rotates with the shaft, minimizing wear.
