PSS 02-138-312 - Dripless Shaft Seal 1 3/8", 3 1/2" Stern Tube
The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is a sophisticated mechanical face seal designed for optimal performance in marine applications. The seal is formed between the polished surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange, ensuring a reliable barrier against water ingress. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellow using hose clamps, while the bellow fits snugly over the stern tube, also held in place with clamps. The stainless-steel rotor compresses the bellow before being fixed to the shaft with set screws, creating a pre-load that maintains a consistent contact between the rotor and flange.
This innovative design allows the PSS Shaft Seal to adjust to the dynamic movements of the propeller thrust, helping to mitigate any fore and aft shifts. The carbon flange is over-bored to accommodate the shaft diameter, allowing it to float and adapt to minor misalignments and vibrations.
Sealing is enhanced by two O-rings that are recessed into the collar bore, rotating with the shaft and rotor without experiencing wear, ensuring longevity and reliability.
