The PSS 02-138-300 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for optimal efficiency and reliability in marine applications. This mechanical face seal features a unique construction that ensures a secure and leak-free operation.

The PSS - PYI Type A Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellow using hose clamps, while the back of the bellow fits over the stern tube and is also fastened with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, functioning to compress the bellow prior to being secured to the shaft with set-screws.

This pre-compression maintains consistent contact between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange, enabling the PSS to effectively accommodate the variable movements caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, allowing it to compensate for misalignment and vibration, thereby enhancing durability.

Sealing is achieved through two recessed O-rings within the collar bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
