The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is engineered for reliable performance and durability in marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal features a unique design that ensures a secure seal between the stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange.
The seal operates by creating a sealing surface through the contact of flat surfaces on the rotating rotor and the stationary flange. The carbon flange, secured to the bellow with hose clamps, is designed to fit over the stern tube, while the stainless-steel rotor compresses the bellow, ensuring consistent contact for optimal sealing performance. This pre-load mechanism allows the seal to adapt to fluctuations caused by propeller thrust, maintaining effective sealing under varying conditions.
To enhance its functionality, the carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to float and accommodate misalignment and vibrations. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using recessed O-rings, which rotate with the shaft and remain unaffected by wear during operation.
