The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is a high-performance mechanical face seal designed for marine applications. It features a unique sealing mechanism where a rotating stainless-steel rotor engages with a stationary carbon flange. This design ensures effective sealing while accommodating the axial movements caused by propeller thrust.
In this system, the carbon flange is securely attached to the bellow, which is clamped onto the stern tube. The rotor compresses the bellow, maintaining a constant contact between its flat surface and the carbon flange. This pre-load facilitates optimal sealing performance, allowing the shaft seal to adapt to varying movements and misalignments.
Moreover, the stainless-steel rotor is fitted with two O-rings that rotate with the shaft, minimizing wear and enhancing durability. The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignment and vibration issues.
