PSS 02-138-200 - Dripless Shaft Seal 1 3/8", 2" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-138-200 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for optimal performance and reliability in marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal features a unique design that ensures a secure and effective seal under varying conditions.
The PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal system, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is mounted to the front of the bellow with hose clamps, while the back fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured by hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is attached to the shaft, positioned in front of the carbon flange, and is designed to compress the bellow to ensure a tight fit.
This pre-load compression maintains constant contact between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange, effectively compensating for any forward and backward movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is intentionally over-bored to match the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and adapt to misalignment and vibrations.
For effective sealing, the stainless-steel rotor incorporates two O-rings that are recessed in the collar bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and do not experience wear during operation, ensuring longevity and reliability.
